Poster call reopened!
Due to high demand, we’re excited to announce that we are reopening our call for posters for the Citizen Science for Water Conference! We will be selecting up to 5 additional posters to be included in our poster sessions. We will be accepting submissions until 19 May 2025, 23:59.
For this inaugural CS4Water conference, we will focus on freshwater systems and water resource monitoring, management, governance, and community-led actions with the aim to:
- Promote collaborative research and knowledge sharing, fostering collaboration among an international community of scientists, practitioners, and citizens and communities to advance cooperative freshwater monitoring and management.
- Empower communities and institutions, boosting discourse surrounding decision-making, communication, and governance in the water commons to help restore, design, and ensure resilient freshwater bodies, groundwater, wetlands, and deltas for the future of people and the planet.
- Advance sustainable solutions to the freshwater crises, co-exploring innovative, sustainable, citizen science-driven strategies for achieving the SDGs, especially in the Global South, and safeguarding water into the future.
The conference will bring together experienced citizen science practitioners and newcomers from both the Global North and Global South who are interested in exploring how citizen science can contribute to water management.

Paper abstract for oral presentations and pitch sessions
Share your work at the forefront of citizen science for water by submitting a 250-300 word abstract for a presentation. This is a valuable opportunity to showcase your insights, objectives, methodology, and key findings to a diverse audience of practitioners and researchers from around the world. Presenting will allow you to engage with others on the impact and innovation of your work and its relevance to the field of citizen science in water management.
Accepted abstracts will be highlighted in conference sessions either as a full presentation (12 minutes) or a concise pitch (3 minutes), each followed by a dynamic panel discussion (organized and facilitated by the CS4Water team). This format offers you visibility, feedback, and networking, enabling you to contribute to and learn from the latest developments and collaborative efforts in citizen science.
Workshop
Create a lasting impact by leading a hands-on workshop at the CS4Water conference. We invite you to submit a 90-minute workshop proposal that will engage participants in interactive activities, discussions, or skill-building exercises centered around citizen science and water. This is a unique chance to connect with a motivated audience, inspire through experiential learning, and share practical skills or innovative methods directly with practitioners and researchers.
Workshops offer a powerful platform for meaningful interaction, allowing you to delve deeper into your topic, foster collaborative learning, and explore new approaches with participants from diverse backgrounds. By leading a session, you will contribute to shaping the collective knowledge and skills in citizen science for water, sparking connections that extend well beyond the conference.
Poster
Showcase your work on citizen science for water in an engaging, visual format by submitting a poster proposal. Posters offer a unique opportunity to present your ideas on citizen science for water concisely and creatively, sparking interest and facilitating one-on-one discussions with fellow conference attendees. This format is ideal for highlighting key insights, innovative methods, or preliminary findings in a way that invites feedback and encourages informal networking.
Accepted posters will be featured in a dedicated session, giving you the chance to connect directly with participants who share your interests and expertise. This interactive format is perfect for gaining visibility, sharing ideas, and fostering valuable connections, all while contributing to the conference’s collaborative exploration of citizen science for water.
Special Interaction
Bring your creativity and unique ideas to life through a special interaction at the conference! We invite you to propose engaging, unconventional formats—such as interactive forums, practical or artistic demonstrations, open mic moments, or competitions—that spark new connections and inspire fresh perspectives on citizen science for water. This flexible format lets you shape a truly memorable experience for participants, using the approach, length, and atmosphere that best fit your topic and goals.
Submitting a special interaction allows you to experiment with innovative presentation styles and collaborate closely with a target audience, making it a great way to share insights and influence the conference in a dynamic, hands-on way. If your proposal is accepted, you will be in charge of organising and delivering the interaction.
Promotional Activities
Exhibition
During the conference, we will have a designated exhibition area, where organizations, companies, or research groups can showcase (at additional costs) their projects, products, services, or research findings.
Excursion
We encourage you to submit ideas for excursions that offer conference participants a chance to explore relevant sites related to citizen science and water in South Holland. The submission for an excursion requires specification of the objective, location, timeframe and target audience. Please note that it will not be possible to charge conference participants extra for excursions.
